Microservices enable scalable and flexible cloud applications but often drive up costs due to increased inter-service communication, decentralized data storage, and complex resource allocation. Microservices also require extensive observability and security which further drive up the cost. This chapter examines how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) solutions can address these cost challenges in cloud-based microservices. It also discusses the high resource demands of AI itself, emphasizing the need to balance AI-enabled cost savings with the expenses of model training and inference.
