Recent Developments on Mobile Machine Research – Electrification, Connectivity, Sustainable Pressure Media

Mobile machines are in the scope of development and research for several years. Nevertheless, the development boundaries are currently changing a lot due to progresses in electric motion technologies, data sciences and global sustainability goals. In this paper, the impact of this three development boundaries is discussed and examples for implementation on two mobile excavators is shown. In detail, the development of an electro-hydraulic actuator is shown in theory and its experimental validation on an excavator is presented. In addition, the paper will focus on the influence of bio hydraulic oils that will be a necessary puzzle piece for more sustainable hydraulic system. The behavior of an excavator with different oils and a comparison to state of the art oils will be shown. Furthermore, the topic of connectivity and implementation of sensors on an excavator for more productive constructions sides will be discussed.
