This chapter will provide an overview of the mechanisms and processes that lead to tooth discolouration, internally and externally. The text focuses on the utilisation of bleaching in improving the appearance of anterior teeth that are either vital or non-vital. Techniques such as ‘inside-outside’ bleaching, selective bleaching and the bleaching of discoloured conventionally prepared teeth are described in detail with sequential photographs. The chapter also describes the utilisation of resin infiltration where fluorosis is an issue as well as the management of the access cavity in root canal-treated teeth.
