Digitalisation Enhancing Ecosystem Thinking and Business Model Innovation Through Co-creation
摘要
This article demonstrates how digitalisation has created new opportunities for co-creation and digital knowledge transfer (KT) in the Hospitality Industry. From 2023 to 2024, the author Heidi Vähänikkilä conducted a study on change capacity in the HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant, and Café/Catering), tourism, and event industries in Finland and Malaysia. 197 questionnaire answers and 21 executive-level interviews revealed that companies still face challenges in change capacity, especially in the development of future proof business models (BM) that truly deliver value in a turbulent post-pandemic business environment without compromising the core of original BMs. Also, a lack of usage of digital platforms in innovation processes within organisations and over company boundaries was brought up. The results of this study were used in the Limelight research, development, and innovation (RDI) project. The Limelight team, led by Vähänikkilä, created a digital Ecosystem platform. This platform was tailored to organisations dealing with business model innovation challenges. Working together by sharing knowledge on a specific collaborative board offers a dynamic, easy, and location flexible platform for co-creation and innovation of solutions to real-life challenges.
