Exploring Early Education for Sustainable Development: Insights from a Japanese Kindergarten

In an era marked by growing concerns for global sustainability, the role of education in shaping the future for everyone is paramount. However, a fundamental question arises: Are we adequately preparing future generations with the essential skills and resources? This critical inquiry fuels the global conversation on sustainability. Responding to the need for educational solutions to address sustainability challenges, Education Sustainable DevelopmentCurriculum designeducation for sustainable development (ESD) (ESD) has gained prominence. This study explores kindergartenKindergarten educationsustainability practices practices in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, revealing how ESD elements are seamlessly integrated into the curricula, teaching practices and daily routines. The research identifies critical components of high-quality preschool education that aim to instil knowledge, awareness and action while embedding ESD values in early childhood development.
