The fourteenth International Conference on Networked Learning (NLC2024) was held at the Valletta Campus in Malta. The building dates back to the 1600s and is a local monument that housed the first higher education institution in Malta. It was recently renovated to a very high standard as a conference and events centre, nowadays owned and run by the University of Malta. It misses nothing of its old grandeur while at the same time attending to the needs and practicalities of present times looking forward to sustainably serving the academy and wider community into the future. Similarly, NLC2024 brought together the old and the new: newcomers to the field of networked learning (NL) intermingling with community veterans; beginning researchers and practitioners discussing perspectives and issues with senior experts in the field; shared observations from practice and research-based theories reflecting long-standing concerns, while introducing emerging ideas that enrich established knowledge. The NL field comes through as very much alive and, in being alive, strives to keep responding to the constancy of change.
