Biopolitics and Evolutionary Political Science: Tracing Evolution, Current Trends, and Envisioning Future Directions
摘要
The integration of biological perspectives within political science, driven by life sciences advancements, has profoundly reshaped political analysis. Guided by the notion of re-globalization, this chapter offers a comprehensive review of biopolitics and evolutionary political science (EPS), which incorporates biological principles into political analysis. It begins by tracing the evolution and current state of biopolitics, incorporating relevant scholarly work such as “Biopolitics at 50 Years.” The chapter then explores EPS, examining how recent scientific advancements have revived the classical realist view that war stems from human nature. It continues with a case study of the current Russian-Ukrainian war and the Second World War to illustrate the concept of self-deception. The chapter concludes by discussing the implications and future directions for biopolitics and EPS, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary research in scientifically understanding irrational political phenomena. This evaluation underscores the transformative potential of integrating evolutionary and physiological perspectives in political science, offering a deeper understanding of political behavior and decision-making processes. Future research should focus on elucidating the causes and mechanisms of irrational phenomena, which have often been considered anomalies in political science, thereby enhancing our comprehension of political dynamics and governance.
