Witnessing Medieval Female Subject Consciousness in Works of Giovanni Boccaccio and Geoffrey Chaucer
摘要
This chapter demonstrates developing female subject consciousness in depictions of female characters of Boccaccio and Chaucer, including Boccaccio’s Fiammetta, Griselda, and Chaucer’s Second Nun, Grisilde, and the Wife of Bath. It provides foundational background for understanding of Boccaccio’s and Chaucer’s shared thematic approaches and presents both poets as “witnesses” of the changing medieval landscape for women.
