Analysis of the Factors Inhibiting Physical Activities in the Leisure Times of Female University Students in Oman, Case Study: German University of Technology
摘要
In this study we identify and analyse the prevailing factors inhibiting the female students in Oman from participating in physical activities. Three levels of participation—No, Low/Medium, and High—are defined, and students’ perception of barriers is compared based on their academic discipline, age, and year. Finally, the inhibitory factors are also ranked based on their effectiveness for each academic year students at each level of participation. The participants are 350 undergraduate female students of six different disciplines at German University of Technology (GUtech) in 2022–2023 academic year. A quantitative survey collects data using a questionnaire. The results indicate that the level of perceived barriers to participate in physical activities is moderate. The four most influential factors are Time, Covid-19 and other epidemies, Social Relations and Companion, and Unawareness. Inhibiting factors are more influential for non-participants than for participants at lower levels. The findings help universities and policymakers understand female students’ activity levels and make informed decisions to improve them.
