Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have grown by leaps and bounds recently. AI is transforming every aspect of daily life and will likely continue to do so in the coming years and decades. AI has the potential to produce great improvements for human life but it also poses great dangers, particularly for the youngest among us and those humans yet to come. Will it replace countless careers, leading to a crisis of massive unemployment and poverty? Will it be used politically in ways that will irreparably damage democratic institutions? Will the presence of artificial beings that outperform humans in every capacity pose a challenge to self-realization? All of these questions raise not just immediate concerns but also ones of intergenerational justice. In this chapter, we turn to our theory to explore these questions and explicate an intergenerationally just approach to AI use.
