The term “climate services” encompasses systems designed to collect, process, and deliver climate-related information. Ideally, these services should provide a range of tools and resources for monitoring and predicting climate conditions, along with decision-support systems that help users select the most relevant products for their specific applications. Since 2009, the WMO has actively promoted the development of climate services worldwide, in collaboration with national meteorological services and other institutions, achieving significant progress. This chapter introduces the concept of climate services and examines the different ways in which they have been implemented in the La Plata Basin, identifying successful approaches to their production and dissemination. It specifically describes the status of regional climate monitoring and prediction in the LPB. It also explores how climate information is perceived and utilized by key socioeconomic sectors, with a particular focus on agriculture and hydrology. Additionally, the chapter discusses different strategies for developing and delivering climate information, highlighting key concepts such as climate risk management and the collaborative production of climate knowledge.
