Special Issue Areas and Opportunities
摘要
In an era where countering violent extremism (CVE) extends beyond the realms of national security and law enforcement and social work plays an evermore important role, multi-sectoral collaboration has emerged as a pivotal strategy. This chapter delves into the significance of such collaboration, highlighting its role in strengthening resource development and capacity building across diverse sectors and disciplines. However, these collaborations are not without challenges, as professionals from varied institutional backgrounds might encounter tension and uncertainties. This chapter also explores the critical need for multi-sectoral collaboration when working with children and youth, particularly those at risk of radicalization or with parents involved in extremism. Adolescents, who are navigating a tumultuous phase of self-discovery and identity formation, are especially vulnerable to hybrid extremist influences. Coordinated efforts across sectors are essential to provide the necessary support and interventions to mitigate these complexities. Furthermore, this chapter examines the unique challenges and opportunities within prisons and correctional contexts. Social workers in these environments face the dual pressures of punitive and securitized settings, yet prisons can also be transformative spaces for positive change, effective case management, and trauma-informed care approaches. This chapter shows how ethically grounded, trust-based collaboration can convert punitive logics into trauma-informed, needs-oriented practice across youth, family, and correctional contexts.
