Coding, Billing, and Reimbursement for Procedures
摘要
Coding, billing, and reimbursement are an integral part of the procedures performed in today’s modern medical office, particularly in the United States. Performing the procedure is only part of the process. Providers and their business managers must establish a system to ensure that both the device (i.e., pessary, intrauterine device, etc.) and the performance of the procedure are reimbursed prior to initiating a procedure within a medical practice. Since some devices are very expensive, it can be a costly mistake not to be reimbursed for the device. Appropriate billing with concomitant reimbursement can gradually change the emphasis and tenor of a clinician’s practice improving satisfaction for patients and clinicians alike. Once the billing process has been established, it can then be modified to add additional procedures.
