Bartholin glands secrete mucus to lubricate the vagina and are found in the lower aspect of the vagina near the hymenal ring. When the gland’s orifices are obstructed due to trauma or inflammation, a cyst forms. These cysts are often asymptomatic but can fluctuate in size, and if they become secondarily infected, they can become quite painful. Treatment of the cyst provides symptomatic relief and can be achieved through various techniques including insertion of a Word catheter, insertion of a Jacobi ring, drainage, marsupialization, or excision.
