A finite element model of an acoustic barrier over an underlying surface has been constructed. Various types of underlying surfaces have been considered. The influence of the noise source location and the computational point on the acoustic efficiency of the barrier has been investigated. A quantitative assessment of the deterioration of the barrier's efficiency in the presence of an underlying surface has been obtained.
