The article summarises the research experience within the Espluga de Cuberes International Workshop, organised by the RehabiMed association, with the collaboration of the University of Cagliari (DICAAR) and the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC-EPSEB). The association has decades of experience in the production of studies investigating the possibilities of preserving and recovering the traditional heritage of settlement habitats in Mediterranean countries, offering opportunities for the dissemination of a shared constructive culture of living and its different regionalisms. The workshop, held during the two weeks between August and September 2024, represented the start of a research on the theme of troglodytic habitats in the Mediterranean context, using as a case study Espluga de Cuberes, a micro-dwelling system created inside a cavity geologically originated in the Sierra de Boumort, in the pre-Pyrenean system of north-western Catalonia. The structure of the workshop proposed by RehabiMed alternates propaedeutic activities, with an interdisciplinary dimension to acquire the notions of previous study of the site, with activities in which the physical presence in situ, in addition to being necessary to carry out accurate surveys of the material consistencies of the architectures, is fundamental to interpret and construct hypotheses on the living arrangements in extreme contexts and conditions such as those of the troglodytic habitat of the pre-modern period, in which the domestic environment is the result of the encounter between environmental conditions and the adaptability of the human being.
