Soil Stabilization with Over-Stabilised Cationic Bitumen Emulsions

The relevance of the use of reinforced foundations in our time is due to the volume of construction, which is increasing every year and the possibility of using local materials instead of expensive rocks. Soil stabilization occurs in the direction of changing the properties of local materials of various compositions and transforming them into a monolithic, durable structural layer of road surface. Many years of research have shown that the strength of road surfaces with layers with a stabilized base is not lower, and in many cases higher than the strength of road surfaces with bases with crushed stone and gravel. To increase the bearing capacity of clay soils and ensure long-term strength, it is recommended to stabilize them with binders. For this purpose, a cationic bitumen emulsion was used as a binder. The main indicator of high-quality compaction is the maximum density of soil particles, which corresponds to the optimal soil moisture content, which was established by laboratory tests using the Proctor test. To study the effect of bitumen emulsion as a binder, the compressive strength, tensile strength at bending and deformability indicators of soil samples at the age of 7 days were determined. It is proven that the resulting material has higher compressive strength and tensile strength at bending.
