Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly changed the world around us, making it increasingly important for students to understand AI is becoming in order to succeed in both their education and future careers. While computer scientists have been developing and applying AI tools for decades, the recent expansion of Large Language Models (LLMs), AI image and video generation tools, and increased government and corporate applications have heightened the need for AI literacy. This chapter explores the learner experience design and implementation of a microlearning course for a microcredential in AI literacy. This chapter highlights the feedback provided by the more than 2000 members of a campus community that engaged in a free, asynchronous course between June 2024 and June 2025. Demystifying Artificial Intelligence is an example of a strong user-centered microcredential created to engage learners ranging from novices to experts. The course boosted learners’ confidence, maintained a high completion rate, and serves as a model for other institutions seeking to deliver training on complex topics to diverse audiences. This review demonstrates the capacity to engage learners with complex STEM content in short bursts that are meaningful, satisfying, and aligned with global guidance to extend AI awareness and literacy. This review also demonstrates that learners will actively participate in meaningful discussion of complex STEM topics in microlearning when the content is relevant, timely, and engaging.

摘要
