Significance of Technologies to Attain Sustainable Development Goals in Urban Planning
摘要
Urbanization is happening at a pace never seen before, with over two-thirds of the world's population expected to live in cities by 2050. As cities grow, they are increasingly confronted with issues such as pollution, housing shortages, water shortages, traffic jams, and social inequality. These urban problems immediately endanger the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), but also indirectly affect other goals including clean water (SDG 6), accessible energy (SDG 7), climate action (SDG 13), and sustainable consumption (SDG 12). Technological innovation has in this regard become a key force of urban change. This chapter examines the strategic use of digital, infrastructural, and ecological technologies for the pursuit of SDG objectives in cities.
