This chapter reflects on the relationship between Indigenous language and disability among Indigenous peoples. Academic literature has rarely linked the use of an Indigenous people’s native language to their understanding of disability or cultural practices to address it. Does language play a relevant role when we discuss ways of thinking about disability in Indigenous communities today? Most Indigenous peoples worldwide are currently taking action and fighting to preserve their language, rescue it, and use it in contemporary life. This chapter highlights the need for this struggle and the urgent need to extend its benefits to the field of disability.
