This chapter examines the allegations that have been made that the police are racially biased and discriminate against members from other minority groups. The chapter uses the “View from the Middle Seat at the Back of the Bus” method to develop a case study to evaluate these allegations. This methodological approach enables researchers to see both sides of an argument and to be able to look behind the data to see the reasons for an allegation and how an assertation has arisen. The research has found that while there may have been isolated incidence of apparent bias displayed by police officers, these insinuations are generally misleading and have arisen from flawed data analyses.
