In this chapter, we attempt to give the reader some understanding of who George Soros is and what his motivation was for his philanthropy, including his work with the Roma. The chapter also seeks to provide some understanding of Soros’ approach to leadership in business and civil society, trying to ascertain the degree of overlap. We also attempt to give some insights into his worldview and philosophy to ascertain how this shaped his actions and thinking.
