In Chap. 4 we enter Nietzsche’s “workshop”, i.e., his notes and letters and how he worked, and examine the origin and development of The Antichrist. We especially emphasize the c. 300 pages of notes, and the summaries of these notes, that he called “the first written version of my ‘Revaluation of All Values’”, from the winter 1887/88, and that he kept revising until he wrote Twilight of the Idols and The Antichrist. Most importantly, we examine whether it is possible from those notes to construct almost all of the contents of The Antichrist – and find that that is the case. As discussed in the chapter, this implies that it ought also to be possible to construct from these notes most of the contents of the three volumes he did not have time to write before his collapse in January 1889.
