This chapter provides a meta-analysis of motivating language’s relationship to follower performance, job satisfaction, and engagement. Results showed significant correlations between ML and all three outcomes, with the relationships ranking among some of the strongest in management literature. The chapter also presents evidence of moderators existing in these relationships, and we tested for national setting as a possible moderator. The study only found evidence of a national setting moderator in the ML-performance link, but follow-up studies indicated the presence of other—unknown—moderators.

摘要

This chapter provides a meta-analysis of motivating language’s relationship to follower performance, job satisfaction, and engagement. Results showed significant correlations between ML and all three outcomes, with the relationships ranking among some of the strongest in management literature. The chapter also presents evidence of moderators existing in these relationships, and we tested for national setting as a possible moderator. The study only found evidence of a national setting moderator in the ML-performance link, but follow-up studies indicated the presence of other—unknown—moderators.
