This conclusive chapter is devoted to the tendencies towards demise of authority and legitimacy as key resources of democratic governance. It explores the risks of implosion of the constitutional order and the demise of authority in times of crisis, emergency, and transition. The chapter shows the perils stemming from deconstitutionalization and constitutional sclerosis for liberal-democratic constitutional orders. It exposes the ways in which constitutional polycrisis, emergency constitutionalism, and constitutional polytransition are shifting the relationship between constitutional normalcy and constitutional emergency. The chapter defines four main types of issues that are producing the demise of authority and the potential crumbling of the constitutional order. These are the efficiency issues, the democracy and rule of law issues, the misinformation, non-accountability, and transparency issues and the liberty issues.
