This study examines the impact of judicial ethics principles on judges’ conduct, highlighting the importance of their voluntary adoption. It explores how these principles, functioning as basic guidelines, establish a pattern of behavior that strengthens the impartiality, independence, and integrity of the judicial role without imposing a strict legal obligation. The focus is on the Judicial Ethics Commission’s opinions, which interpret and clarify these principles, suggesting that their application relies on each judge’s individual conscience. The distinction between judicial ethics and discipline is emphasized: the former encourages excellence through self-regulation, while the latter is based on mandatory rules. Judges are advised to act with prudence and fairness, maintaining a balance between their right to freedom of expression and their duty of institutional neutrality. Furthermore, caution is advised against inappropriate conduct that may undermine public trust in the judicial system.
