Perceptions and Reactions
摘要
In the preceding chapter, I presented different perspectives on the problem of migration. But the different perspectives are agreed on one thing, namely there are reactions to migration from Africa. Looking at the different perspectives in the preceding chapter, we can see that the aforementioned reactions to migration from Africa are based on perceptions of migration from Africa. One major theme in both the penultimate chapter and the preceding chapter is that perception matters. The perception of African migration matters because even though established views can be changed, Robert Jervis (2017) is right that once we have established images of others in our minds, it is difficult for us to dislodge such images. And once others have established our images in their minds, it is difficult for them to dislodge such images.
