Key findings emphasize the importance of maintaining and expanding forest cover, as forests play a crucial role as significant carbon sinks. Implementing sustainable harvesting techniques, such as selective logging and reduced-impact logging, can minimize disturbance to forest ecosystems while allowing for economic benefits. Additionally, reforestation and afforestation efforts have shown promising results in increasing the potential for carbon sequestration. The chapter has also emphasized the need for integrated approaches that consider multiple ecosystem services provided by forests, including biodiversity conservation and water regulation. The core principle of SFM is to safeguard the vital functions of forests by ensuring that resource use does not exceed the environment’s capacity to regenerate and replenish itself.
