This chapter explores the unique risk factors and protective factors to be considered by professionals when engaging in biopsychosocial assessments with patients who are Deaf or hard of hearing. It explores the impact of stereotypes and biases on the assessment process, as well as the unique risk and protective factors that are often relevant for the assessment process in relation to patients who are Deaf or hard of hearing. This chapter incorporates four case studies through which to explore the biopsychosocial assessment with this population.
