Language Disorders and Aphasia Rehabilitation
摘要
Language, as a means of communication, is a tool we use to express and share our thoughts and realize our desires. Language involves putting words and sentences together meaningfully, allowing ideas and information to be communicated. Language disorder is characterized by problems in understanding and using language, which may occur in one or more language components. Language disorders in adults most often result from left hemisphere stroke but may also result from other types of damage that affect the brain’s language network (such as trauma or neurodegenerative disease). Aphasia, one of the language disorders usually seen in adults, is an acquired language disorder in which the left-lateralized temporal-parietal-frontal perisylvian language networks are generally affected. Impairments occur in understanding and expressing the language. In this regard, individuals with aphasia experience a process of social change along with the changes they experience after a stroke. Individuals with aphasia must continue with the appropriate diagnosis and therapy process after evaluation by clinicians. At this point, changes and advances in technology have also affected the aphasia evaluation and therapy process. Therapists have been able to offer individualized therapy services, which aim to provide maximum benefit to individuals with aphasia, with more diverse tools and the development of technology.
