Blocks for Chronic Pain Management in ENT Disorders
摘要
Chronic pain in otorhinolaryngology is widely recognized as one of the most debilitating and vexatious conditions. The experience of chronic pain often leads patients to lose interest in and work capacity, resulting in significant absenteeism and a direct or indirect impact on their quality of life. In addition to physical discomfort, patients may also experience emotional and psychological disturbances. Conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, cluster headache, otalgia, sphenopalatine neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and cancer-related pain exemplify chronic pain disorders within otorhinolaryngology. Nerve blocks serve dual roles in diagnosis and therapy, offering relief by interrupting the chronic pain cycle. Sympathetic blockade, utilized for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, presents another avenue for intervention.
