Advances in treatment and care services in the medical field have led to an increase in life expectancy and the proportion of the elderly population. The care of a growing senior population requires separate planning. With aging, the reserve capacity of organs and systems in the body decreases, several cellular and extracellular physiological changes occur, and the incidence of acute and chronic diseases increases. With advancing age, changes occur in all body systems. This also applies to otolaryngology diseases. In addition, treating otolaryngology problems in older people is often greatly influenced by systemic conditions outside the head and neck. In this chapter, common otolaryngologic diseases in the elderly will be discussed, and the management of these diseases in geriatric rehabilitation will be addressed.
