The main goal of ozone therapy is to restore oxygen saturation by insufflating a combination of oxygen and ozone into the body through different methods. Ozone’s action mechanisms depend on benign and controlled microoxidation when applied in sufficient concentrations. Two distinct phases of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid oxidation products (LOPs) formation occur following O3 delivery. ROS are seen as messengers that are both early and short-acting, while LOPs are messengers that are both late and long-lasting. This allows them to diffuse across different organs and bind to cell receptors at low concentrations, reducing their harmful effects. Recent research has recast reactive oxygen species (ROS) as a modulator of host defense and immunological responses, challenging the long-held belief that ROS are inherently damaging. Patients with tinnitus, peripheral vertiginous syndrome, abrupt hearing loss, or other disorders with potential vascular etiology, as well as those with infectious origin, such as chronic otitis media, may benefit from ozone treatment in addition to conventional therapy, according to the field of otorhinolaryngology.
