Family Papers and Paper Families
摘要
In Chapter 5 my point of departure is papers documenting intimate, family and kin relationships, such as marriage or civil partnership contracts, divorce attestations and birth certificates. I explore the shapes that mobility and waiting take in the context of the intimate relationships that undocumented migrants enter and sustain. Intimate relationships are configured not only by social and cultural expectations, but by the temporal architectures of the French migration regime. In this context, marriage and parenthood figure both as sources of anxious lack and ‘stuckedness’ and as frail and tentative paths towards desired futures.
