Blockchain and IPFS Based Evidence Protection System for Safeguarding Women’s Right

In today’s digital age, digital evidence plays a pivotal role in criminal investigations, particularly in cases related to heinous crimes against women, such as rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, acid attacks, and numerous cyber crimes. However, the vulnerability of digital evidence to tampering, manipulation, or unauthorized access poses a significant challenge to the evidence integrity and privacy of victims. Throughout the investigation process, sensitive data in various formats is generated, necessitating the maintenance of data integrity as it passes through different intermediaries, forming a Chain of Custody. This paper proposes an innovative solution to address these issues through the integration of Ethereum blockchain and the Interplanetary File System (IPFS), creating a robust Evidence Protection System (EPS) for safeguarding women’s rights. The proposed system leverages the transparency, immutability, and decentralized nature of the Ethereum blockchain to establish an unforgeable chain of custody for digital evidence, with smart contracts facilitating the seamless management of access and verification by authorized stakeholders, such as law enforcement agencies and legal professionals. The IPFS technology is utilized to securely store digital evidence, ensuring its availability and privacy. The combination of blockchain and IPFS provides a secure platform for preserving digital evidence, mitigating risks of tampering and unauthorized distribution, and enhancing the pursuit of justice.
