Pricing Data in Data Marketplaces: A Systematic Literature Review

The proliferation of data has created unprecedented opportunities for diverse sectors. As such, data marketplaces have emerged to satisfy the demand for data exchange and facilitate data sharing. In these marketplaces, a proper price is necessary to encourage participation. However, data pricing is still a non-trivial problem. In the past decades, researchers from different disciplines have been involved in studying data pricing with diverse perspectives. To provide an overview of the existing solutions to data pricing and study the interdisciplinarity therein, this paper conducts a review of the state-of-the-art studies on data pricing for data marketplaces. We synthesize these studies using a concept-centric approach. Our aim is to present a comprehensive overview of the current research and identify the future directions.
