Writing about cricket has been afforded significant levels of academic scrutiny. Shaped by the sport’s colonial history and its evolution as a middle-class vehicle for national identity, literary cricket journalism occupies a unique position within sports writing. This chapter examines the development of cricket writing from its early literary development to contemporary digital platforms, identifying key writers, recurring themes and stylistic approaches. Cricket writing has progressed from reporting that reinforced imperial hierarchies to a form that increasingly challenges power structures, embraces diverse voices and addresses broader socio-political contexts. Drawing on examples from established cricket journalists, player narratives and emerging independent platforms, this chapter argues that literary cricket journalism offers a lens through which postcolonial narratives, geopolitical shifts and questions of authenticity can be examined. In doing so, it reveals how cricket writing transcended reportage to become a sophisticated form of cultural commentary.
