Rural and Remote Populations
摘要
This chapter provides an overview of the differential drivers, risk factors, and intersectional considerations for rural and remote populations, both domestically and globally. Rurality-specific barriers to preventative and post-violence care (e.g. lack of family violence resources, transportation barriers, isolation) are discussed, as are technological advances that may reduce these barriers (e.g. app-based safety planning, telemedicine). The pros and cons of close-knit communities, common in rural and remote areas, are discussed through vignettes, and specific considerations for rural and remote Indigenous communities are foreshadowed for further discussion in the preceding chapter. The chapter concludes with case studies and nursing interventions for rural people experiencing family violence.
