The Policy Transaction Perspective: A New Pragmatist Approach to Policy Processes

In the last fifteen years, a new pragmatist approach has emerged to better grasp the complex, fragmented, underdetermined, and uncertain nature of contemporary policy processes. Early policy studiespolicystudies in the 1930s and 1940s were heavily influenced by the philosophy of pragmatismpragmatism (Dunn, 2019; Deleon 1988), but this influence declined with the ascendence of positivist approaches to decisiondecision-making and the policy process.
