Cities around the world face serious environmental and public health issues as a result of the enormous rise in municipal trash generation imposed on by the recent rapid growth of urban populations. A move toward sustainable solutions is required because traditional waste management systems, which mostly rely on landfills, are finding it difficult to meet demand. An enormous amount of municipal solid waste (MSW) are building up on our planet as a consequence of growing urbanization and industry. Waste production is a contentious issue in the environmental community because of its numerous detrimental effects on the environment. Improving the quality of life in cities and promoting sustainability depend on efficient municipal trash management. This chapter focuses on innovative approaches to municipal waste management that incorporate innovative technologies, community engagement, and legislative frameworks. These techniques are crucial for turning trash into resources. Integrated waste management systems that combine source separation, composting, and advanced recycling technologies are being employed to lessen reliance on landfills. Through the implementation of educational activities and the promotion of community engagement, municipalities can improve public participation and accountability in waste reduction initiatives. By employing diverse strategies, communities can minimize their environmental effect, manage waste effectively, and establish a healthier urban environment.
