This chapter introduces the concept of ‘hysteriahysteriahysterical’, tracing its history from Greek philosophy to early ChristianChristianChristianity theologians and analysing its impact on the construction of women’s bodieswomen’s bodies as ‘misbegottenmisbegotten’ to the ‘full humanity’ of the male bodymale bodymale, menmale body.
