This chapter will consider how these constructions of women’s painpain as ‘normal’ and ‘unremarkable’ parts of womanhood further complicate women’s experiences of chronic painchronic pain. It will examine how and why women are disproportionately impacted by chronic pain, and why chronic pain remains so challenging to understand.
