Lifestyle and Orofacial Pain
摘要
Chronic pain is a complex condition characterised by persistent pain and emotional distress, severely impacting daily activities, disrupting sleep and often leading to a reliance on medications to manage the pain. Chronic primary orofacial pain of non-odontogenic origin refers to persistent or recurring pain in the face, jaw and oral cavity, occurring on at least 50% of days for a duration of at least three months. Pain in the orofacial region presents similar challenges to other forms of chronic pain, such as emotional distress, impaired daily function and poor sleep quality. Key lifestyle factors—nutrition, physical activity, sleep patterns, stress levels, harmful substance use and social connection—play a crucial role in influencing the severity and experience of pain, and contribute to the development of co-morbid conditions, ultimately interfering with recovery. Addressing these lifestyle factors through personalised interventions can help manage pain and improve the overall quality of life for individuals suffering from chronic orofacial pain.
