Neuropsychological evaluations are essential element in the care and treatment planning for many hospitalized patients. However, the assessment practices necessary to be successful in inpatient settings differ substantially from the structure of outpatient assessment familiar to most neuropsychologists. In the following chapter, we will address these important differences by offering guidance for navigating the inpatient environment, conducting bedside examinations, and using the full range of clinical skill when working with acute patients. We also provide an example format for preparing reports to efficiently communicate findings in these fast-paced settings.
