This chapter will focus on assessment and intervention strategies to address changes in cognition and behavior that occur commonly in patients in acute, subacute, or residential settings. Treatment approaches may vary depending upon the presence of delirium or confusion. As such, the following chapter will highlight common symptoms, recommended modes of assessment, and intervention strategies to aid with management for individuals with and without confusion. Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based practice that integrates clinical expertise with patient-centric care.
