This chapter provides a comprehensive view of current Mexico’s space regime based on the Law creating the Mexican Space Agency (LAEM), its participation in the international space community, and its national space activities. Likewise, it addresses the various aspects of space activities in the country, through government institutions, industry, academia, and organized civil society in the space field, including Mexico’s adherence to international space treaties and membership in organizations and relevant forums, national regulations, and future plans, based on the constitutional reform in space matters that seeks to generate a National Space Development Law with a long-term vision that articulates the “quadruple helix” and that turns Mexico into a relevant actor in the global space community with the capacity to promote the peaceful, safe, responsible, and sustainable use of outer space. It is important to note that this chapter covers the period from the establishment of the AEM in 2010 to its restructuring under the Sheinbaum administration in 2025, overseen by the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT).
