The Latin American and Caribbean Network of Universities and Institutions that Research on Space Technology, Policy and Law, ReLaCa Espacio (RELACA), is an academic institution created thanks to the impulse given by the European Center for Space Law, which proposed to create something similar in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The objective of the Network is to bring together all those institutions and people interested in space in order to achieve greater development of this subject in the region. The legal framework governing RELACA is made up of the Commitment Act signed in Buenos Aires in 2017 and the Statute that establishes the aims and purposes of the institution and its structure. Since its first meeting at the Sergio Arboleda University in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2016, which was the starting point of the Network, RELACA has organized ten annual international meetings. Another important milestone in RELACA’s development was the recognition, in 2020, by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), of Latin America as the fifth region represented in the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. The Latin American round would take place during the annual RELACA Meetings.
