Control Theoretic Perspectives on Wildlife Monitoring: A Tutorial Introduction to Observers for Population Models
摘要
In this chapter, we give a tutorial introduction to some key control theoretic concepts relevant to wildlife monitoring. In particular, we review the definitions of observability and detectability for linear and nonlinear systems. We then describe several approaches to the design of asymptotic observers for state estimation, paying particular attention to observers for nonlinear systems arising in models of population dynamics. Observers for discrete-time and continuous-time models are considered, and we illustrate the theoretical results on several well-known models from population biology.
