The significance of innovative development in high-tech enterprises in the rocket and space industry is examined, focusing on the trend towards multiproduct manufacturing with a wide range of products not directly related to the primary field of activity, as well as the orientation towards custom project solutions and production diversification. The connection between increased innovative activity in high-tech enterprises and the problem of updating and transforming organizational competencies is shown. The options for developing organizational competencies are outlined: internally and through the integration of competencies from other manufacturers under conditions of joint activities, partnership, and cooperation. The advantages of developing and transforming organizational competencies through interaction with innovation partners, compared to expanding competencies internally, are shown. The criteria for determining the method of acquiring promising competencies are identified. The importance of assessing the balance between the existing competencies in the organization’s arsenal and the prospective competencies necessary for implementing the innovation development strategy is proven.
