This paper presents a validator of provenance polynomials that is compatible with semiring and semimodule-based formalisms proposed in the literature. The validations include checking whether all entries are valid and whether there are missing entries in annotations in Selection-Projection-Join-Union-Aggregation (SPJUA) operations and complex queries with subqueries. This approach is independent of any specific Database Management System (DBMS) and was used to validate provenance annotations generated by two frameworks over TPC-H benchmark queries. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first solution specifically designed to validate provenance polynomials.

摘要

This paper presents a validator of provenance polynomials that is compatible with semiring and semimodule-based formalisms proposed in the literature. The validations include checking whether all entries are valid and whether there are missing entries in annotations in Selection-Projection-Join-Union-Aggregation (SPJUA) operations and complex queries with subqueries. This approach is independent of any specific Database Management System (DBMS) and was used to validate provenance annotations generated by two frameworks over TPC-H benchmark queries. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first solution specifically designed to validate provenance polynomials.
